Dr. Antonio Giordano

Professor Antonio Giordano graduated with honors from the Medical School of Naples in 1986, specialized in Pathological Anatomical Sciences at the University of Trieste, and immediately moved to the United States, where he earned a PhD at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, under the guidance of Nobel Prize winner Dr. Watson. Professor Antonio Giordano has extensive international experience in cancer genetics, cell cycle regulation, and gene therapy studies. He has published more than 650 articles in internationally renowned scientific journals, holds several international patents, and has received more than 40 national and international awards for his contributions to cancer research. Professor Giordano is a renowned Full Professor in Pathological Anatomical Sciences at the Department of Medical Biotechnology at the University of Siena and Professor of Molecular Biology at Temple University in Philadelphia. He is the Director of the Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine (a nonprofit organization focused on translational clinical research) and the Center for Biotechnology in the College of Science and Technology at Temple University in Philadelphia. In Italy, he also collaborates with a research team at the Mercogliano Oncology Research Center (INT_Fondazione G. Pascale/CROM).​

In July 2009, he ranked third in terms of number of publications in the Cell Cycle registry's Laboratory Heads by Number of Publications list. In Italy, he has been awarded the title of Cavaliere della Repubblica and Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Finally, among his many research activities is his activism in denouncing environmental factors that lead to an increase in cancer. He has combined his research career with that of science communicator, focusing primarily on highlighting the connection between toxic waste pollution and the increased risk of chronic diseases. In 2020, he was appointed to the ISS (National Institute of Health) scientific committee as "Representative of the Ministry of the Environment" and director of the working group, supporting Deputy Minister Sileri, aimed at proposing social and health interventions in the environmental field (Ministry of Health). He actively participated in the drafting of the PNRR, always with a focus on the relationship between quality and the environment. Currently, in the United States, he is a member of the organizational board of the NIAF (National Italian American Foundation) association and director of a technical committee established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to draft a law to implement healthcare for Italians living abroad.
